Juventus and Atalanta have been targeting Morten Hjulmand for some time, but Roma have now reportedly emerged as the serious contender after a request from Jose Mourinho.
The 23-year-old Danish midfielder has been quietly impressing with the Puglia outfit since his arrival in January 2021 and has quickly caught the eye of the Bianconeri and Dea. Neither team has made a serious decision for Hjulmand yet and almost lost out to Southampton in last month’s transfer window, but the Saints’€14 million offer was rejected by Lecce. As detailed by Carlo Laudisa of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mourinho has been keeping a close eye on Hjulmand for a while now and has been impressed with his tactical flexibility and high work rate. The Portuguese coach has specifically asked the Roma management to work on a deal for the 23-year-old and Tiago Pinto has already started laying the groundwork for this.
