After Mateo Retegui scored in his first two caps, Roberto Mancini assures that he could call up more Oriundi to play for Italy. “Switzerland, Belgium, France, Germany, England all do it.”

“Retegui knows how to put the ball in the net and that’s not nothing. That’s what we saw when we spotted him. He still needs time, he has to learn European soccer, but he knows how to score and that is an important quality. Having Retegui in Serie A would make him stronger, help him learn the language and therefore better interact with his teammates on the field. We have a very small percentage of Italians who play regularly in Serie A. If you look at other countries, they all do. Switzerland has 15 out of 20 players who are Oriundi. Belgium also. France, Germany and England all turn to Oriundi. There is no need to discuss it because today there are very few players available in Italy. If there is the possibility of having new players, we will do everything to get them,” said Mancini at his press conference.
