In an interview with La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Gabriele Gravina, President of the Italian Football Federation, spoke out on the subject of young players guilty of illegal betting. For the Italian leader, caution is called for. He believes they should be protected and helped in their situations.
“Today, we are talking about two cases (Fagioli and Tonali, editor’s note). I feel that the skin of very young boys is being played on and I have a duty, as a father and as a grandfather, to also defend the dignity of many young Italians who, at the moment, are becoming cannon fodder at the level of a generalized and not particularly honest communication. We have to protect moral integrity, but also accompany these young people in their growth process. That’s why our betting sanctions also include the opportunity to recover for the first time. However, we will never abandon these children,” said Gabriele Gravina.
