Italy coach Luciano Spalletti is delighted with the reception the Azzurri received in the USA and explains why he used a three-man defense against Venezuela.
Spalletti spoke at a press conference after a 2-1 victory over Venezuela yesterday in Fort Lauderdale. “Sometimes it seems that we are not so determined to take the fundamental chance we have. We need to improve in this aspect; we’re still too soft and in our comfort zone, so we make naive mistakes. I chose this training to learn different things. A lot of Italian clubs play with this system, so I wanted the players to feel comfortable. I’ve seen some interesting things, so we need to keep working. On the whole, I’m satisfied with what we’ve done, even if there are some details we need to talk about,” he declared. Italy’s next match is against Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in New York on Sunday March 24.
