AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni expressed his confidence in Rossoneri head coach Stefano Pioli on Monday morning, following the team’s 1-0 victory over Serie A 2022-23 champions Napoli at the San Siro on Sunday evening.
The Rossoneri executive spoke in depth on Monday morning on Radio Anch’io Sport on Rai 1, during which he gave his assessment of the team, its coach and the potential new San Donato stadium. “To borrow the words of our CEO Giorgio Furlani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, we have total confidence in Pioli and the results reinforce our confidence. We’ve bought a plot of land, we’ve received a favourable decision from the San Donato municipality, but we have a whole series of steps to take with the region and local authorities. We’re relatively optimistic, even if in Italy it’s quite difficult to be optimistic about stadium construction. We are making progress, we need a new stadium. The mayor of Milan has asked us to make one last attempt to see if a restructuring (of San Siro) is possible. I don’t understand how work of this magnitude can be carried out in a stadium that welcomes 70,000 people every week. Technically, it’s a difficult question to deal with, but the mayor has asked us to do it and we will respect his wishes,” said Scaroni.
