Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini spoke out yesterday following Roma’s 1-2 defeat by Hellas Verona. The Italian midfielder made it clear that the absence of José Mourinho, suspended for two games, was taking its toll on the team.
“Honestly, I don’t know what happened. The data is there for everyone to see. We don’t want excuses. We have to improve. It’s not possible for a team like ours to have just one point from the first two league games. It’s indefensible. It will be important to play well on Friday against AC Milan,” he said after the match. “Of course, we feel José Mourinho’s absence. You all know how important he is to us. Unfortunately, that’s the current situation. This was the last game without him, and it will certainly be different from the next. We have to work harder because we know there will be a lot of discussions in the next few days,” he added.
