In a recent media interview, former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini spoke of the probable arrival of Romelu Lukaku at Juventus. For him, the transfer would have been possible regardless of the Belgian’s previous statements to the contrary. However, he believes that the Bianconeri would not have been as condescending to him as Inter were.
“A lot of people said ‘never’ to Juventus and went. I didn’t find that statement an obstacle to his transfer to Turin. But at Juventus, he would have had the same load of responsibility that he didn’t manage well last season at Inter. With an aggravating factor: Inter let some indecent performances slide and allowed him to regain his form. I don’t know if they would have been as understanding with Lukaku in Turin. And who knows, in the future he may not behave with another club as he did with Inter: if you are predisposed to certain behaviours in your career…”, Walter Sabatini told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
