Napoli are still working on a new deal for star striker Victor Osimhen, but they are preparing for the worst and are already scouring the market for his replacement.
Osimhen was the star of the Partenopei’s historic Scudetto success last season, scoring 26 goals in 32 league games to help the club end their 33-year wait for the league title. The Nigerian striker now has less than two years left on his Napoli contract and contract negotiations have been difficult, with no agreement reached on a new salary and off-field distractions such as the recent TikTok drama causing further tension. As Calciomercato.com’s Daniele Longo reports, while Napoli are still prioritizing a new contract for Osimhen, they have already begun the search for a possible replacement should they ultimately fail to reach a new deal. The main target is Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, who has been on fire for the Dutch side this season, scoring 15 goals and providing three assists in 11 appearances in total. The Mexican striker is valued at around €40 million, and Napoli have already been in contact with his entourage to begin exploring a decision.
