Joel Matip has reportedly attracted the attention of Lazio and Roma as he prepares to leave Liverpool on a free transfer this summer.
The Cameroonian defender’s contract with the Reds will expire in two months’ time. However, his contract is not up for renewal. Once a key player under Jurgen Klopp, he was forced out of action in December after suffering a cruciate ligament injury. Lazio and Roma are expected to shake things up this summer with their new coaches, Igor Tudor and Daniele De Rossi respectively starting their own projects in the Italian capital. As such, both are ready to invest in the transfer market this summer to try and find good players. As Corriere della Sera reports viaCalciomercato.com, Matip is preparing to leave Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer, attracting the attention of Roma and Lazio, who could open talks with the 32-year-old in the coming weeks. For both Roman clubs, a deal is likely to depend on securing European qualification, and the player himself is open to a move to the Italian capital.
