Sky Sport Italia reports that Roma have made an official request to Chelsea to sign Trevoh Chalobah on loan in January.

The Giallorossi are expected to recruit a new center-back during the winter mercato, while Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla have been absent for several months, leaving José Mourinho short of options at the back in the first half of the season. According to Sky Sport Italia’s Rome correspondent Paolo Assogna, the Giallorossi have set their sights on Chelsea defender Chalobah and have already made enquiries about the 24-year-old. Chalobah is expected to return to action soon after a thigh injury. He made 31 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season. Roma are interested in a possible loan deal, but the Blues can only loan out one player in the January transfer window. They will therefore have to decide who will leave the club on a temporary transfer next month.
