Inter may be forced to return to the transfer market in January, as reports suggest that Juan Cuadrado’s Achilles tendon problem requires surgery.

The former Juventus veteran has been suffering from a recurring Achilles tendon problem all season, which has led him to make just nine appearances between Serie A and the Champions League. According to Sky Sport Italia, this flared up again after the 0-0 Champions League draw with Real Sociedad on Tuesday evening. Medical staff are now concerned that Cuadrado may not be able to resolve his problem once and for all through surgery, which could keep him out for a few months. It’s also a risky operation, given that the Colombian international turned 35 in May. His natural replacement on the right would be Matteo Darmian, but he is often used in central defense to replace the injured Benjamin Pavard and Stefan de Vrij. There are also suggestions that Carlos Augusto might try a new role on the right, as he is normally on the left or even in the back three.
