Interviewed on Rai 2, Gianluigi Buffon, head of the national team delegation, spoke about Luciano Spalletti’s Italy and the Euro.
“I think this Nazionale has a lot of value and that it’s underestimated for what it can do, both as a team and as individuals. From time to time, being underestimated at major tournaments can be a good thing. This is certainly the toughest group in the competition. But it will also be tough for our opponents. We’re the defending champions, even if we didn’t manage to qualify for the World Cup. Everyone knows that, to beat us, they’ll have to sweat. Spalletti tries to pass on important tactical, technical, behavioral and emotional commands to the players. He also has an excellent staff, and over the next few days they’ll be spending 15 to 16 hours a day with the players. They will do everything to make the fans proud of us. I think Spalletti was very clear, he saw in Nicolò the characteristics that maybe aren’t in other players. He can be an extra weapon for the team. As for the rest, I don’t understand why people want to further penalize a young man who has paid for his mistakes,” Buffon told RAI 2.
