Inter director Piero Ausilio met with his Barcelona counterparts earlier this week to discuss the upcoming summer mercato, and one of the points of discussion was defenders.
The Nerazzurri are gearing up for a major summer mercato, having to recruit a number of players on the pitch, including a new striker to replace Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku and a new central defender to replace Milan Skriniar bound for Paris Saint-Germain. Inter qualified for the Champions League semifinals after a quarterfinal win over Porto, giving them a little more to work with this summer. As reported by Catalan newspaper Sport, Ausilio discussed a number of possible defensive options with Barcelona directors, including Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti, two players currently on loan at Tottenham and Lecce respectively. Another defender mentioned in the meeting was 22-year-old Eric Garcia, who seems to be expelled in Catalonia. Jordi Alba was brought up, but the veteran’s salary is probably too high for the Nerazzurri.
