Juventus director Francesco Calvo sees qualification for the 2025 Club World Cup as “a huge opportunity to increase international commercial appeal”.
The Bianconeri are moving to a new style of economic sustainability following penalty points and fines for financial irregularities, so Champions League qualification and the expanded Club World Cup format are big injections of cash. “It’s a huge opportunity for us, it was extremely important to qualify for Juventus’s future, not only for economic sustainability, but also to increase the club’s international commercial appeal. That said, there is an element of curiosity about how this Club World Cup will work in its first edition, with 32 clubs over a month in the USA. It’s played between mid-June and mid-July, so we’ll see what impact the tournament will have. The fact that it’s in the USA is particularly interesting, as the North American market is growing, even if it’s not quite up to the level of more traditional American sports. Let’s hope that with the 2025 Club World Cup, then the 2026 World Cup and also the arrival of Lionel Messi in MLS, this soccer can really break through,” Calvo told Calcio e Finanza.
