Lazio president Claudio Lotito is furious with Luis Alberto following the Spaniard’s surprise announcement of his exit, making it clear that the player isn’t allowed to leave for free.

Luis Alberto signed a new long-term contract with Lazio in October, tying him to the club until June 2027 with a salary of around 4 million euros net per season, making him one of the team’s highest-paid players. Speaking to Adnkronos via TMW, Lotito didn’t hold back when discussing Luis Alberto’s situation, making it clear that Lazio wouldn’t accept a free transfer in the summer. “He probably wants to leave for free. But no, he has a four-year contract, he’s a registered player. Let him find the club that wants him. He asked for a renewal last summer, he is Lazio’s second highest paid player, the contract was clearly signed, he asked for more, he didn’t show up for training camp, as you will all remember. And now he’s out with it, suddenly and without telling us anything. S’he wants to leave, he has to find a team that can buy him. Letting him do a free transfer from a listed company means depleting the assets and I’m not crazy, the shareholders would kill me, and they would be right. We don’t throw money out the window. Rules are rules, both civil and criminal, and they must be respected,” he declared.
