Gian Piero Gasperini isn’t particularly bothered by his Atalanta team being dubbed the “favorites” ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Olympique de Marseille, but insists that his team must put in a quality performance to back up the compliments they’ve recently received in the press.
Gasperini held his usual pre-match press conference on Wednesday evening, reported via TMW. There, he discussed his team’s strength since their dramatic victory over Jurgen Klopp’s Reds. “The title of favourites doesn’t matter much, what matters is how you play on the pitch. We have more credibility, because we eliminated Liverpool, but we always start from 0-0. I hope to do better than our first leg in the Coppa Italia semi-final in Florence. When there are two games, there are always different attitudes. Our first ambition is to have a good game here and to stay on our feet, to have courage and quality in the face of this kind of game. This season has been really extraordinary for us. We’ve played in so many important matches. We are still in all our competitions. It gives me a huge sense of pride and I’m really happy. Our goal is to qualify,” he declared.
