La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Rafael Leao will undergo medical examinations between today and tomorrow, but the Portuguese striker is unlikely to start against Atalanta on Saturday.
Leao has missed the last three matches in all competitions with a thigh injury, and Stefano Pioli said last week that the Rossoneri would do “anything” to make him available against Atalanta in the next Serie A match on Saturday December 9. According to Monday’s La Gazzetta dello Sport, Leao will undergo medical tests today or Tuesday. If Leao’s thigh is “clinically healed”, Milan doctors will begin “phase two”, allowing Leao to work on the pitch and gradually increase the workload throughout the week. However, La Gazzetta claims that the 24-year-old has a limited chance of starting against Atalanta on Saturday, but that he could feature in the Rossoneri starting line-up four days later, when Pioli’s men travel to Newcastle for the final match of the Champions League group stage, which AC Milan must win to keep their qualification hopes alive.
