Matteo Guendouzi was named Man of the Match in Lazio’s 1-0 win over Bayern Munich, and Il Corriere dello Sport praised both the French international and Maurizio Sarri, mentioning a quote from Unai Emery about the midfielder from his time at Arsenal.
Guendouzi was UEFA’s MOTM during Lazio’s 1-0 win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Il Corriere dello Sport praised the former Arsenal and Marseille midfielder, highlighting his stats in the match against Bayern. Guendouzi suffered three fouls against the Bavarians. Only Jamal Musiala had more, with four. The Lazio star also recorded 84% passing accuracy and “hurt” Bayern in central midfield, finding “space to feed his teammates”, wrote journalist Carlo Roscito. The Corriere dello Sport journalist also noted that Guendouzi had become “more disciplined” under Sarri at the Stadio Olimpico. The French midfielder has “courage and personality”, which is not entirely surprising given his experiences at Arsenal and Marseille. The Roman newspaper points out that Guendouzi has retained the same fighting spirit, but has become more mature and disciplined on and off the pitch, playing a key role for Sarri in the capital. Guendouzi, 24, joined Lazio on loan from Marseille last summer and scored two goals in 31 appearances for the Biancocelesti this season.
