Luciano Spalletti spoke to the media following Italy’s elimination from EURO 2024. FIGC President Gabriele Gravina confirmed that the TC will continue to play its role for the time being.
At his press conference in Iserlohn, Germany on Sunday, Spalletti thanked everyone for their “love and support” during the Italian tournament. He also admitted that fans hadn’t yet seen the best version of Spalletti, but insisted that there are differences in the level of impact a coach can have at club and international level. “I thank the fans for their love and support, the players for their availability and professionalism in putting into play everything I asked of them, and the federal staff for their quality and willingness to find solutions to all the problems we had. I’m sorry I didn’t reproduce their level of quality. I’ve been told that I’ve increased the intensity of training too much, that I’ve told fairy tales to motivate the players, but that’s my life. You always need examples to follow, otherwise there’s no path to follow. I came in when there was an immediate urgency for results and considering what was needed. I think I know what to do and I’m going to put it into practice. Yesterday’s game brought us back to zero and we’ll start again from there. I’m going to rejuvenate this team and try to create a group. I haven’t been given the answers I was looking for in terms of leadership. The future will be younger, with new energy and strength. We went into the EUROs with a well-deserved but difficult qualification. We knew we had maximum difficulty, but history tells us that the sides we have faced are well organized, experienced and mature. We are one of the youngest teams, in fact there was only one team younger than us,” Spalletti told a press conference, via Corriere dello Sport.
