“The extension of Olivier Giroud is imminent”, Frederic Massara

AC Milan director Frederic Massara confirms that Olivier Giroud’s new contract is “imminent” and that they want to keep Brahim Diaz, but warns that a decision on Rafael Leao must be made before the end of the season.

“We are in the details with Giroud, the extension is imminent. Brahim Diaz has done very well in recent years. We will sit down at the table with Real Madrid and see what the options are. We would like to bet on him. The situation with Leao, whose contract only runs until June 2024, is a bit more complicated also because of the unpaid fine he has to pay to his former club. There is a mutual willingness to extend the contract and this is a good start. There are particular complexities, but we are facing them with the hope of finding a solution by the end of the season. It is difficult to give a percentage, because until a deal is done, it is always 50-50. There were times when we seemed closer and times when we seemed further apart. That’s a situation we want to address. Obviously, we need to understand by the end of the season if there is a possibility of extending the contract. If an agreement is not reached, Leao will certainly be sold in the summer,” said Massara.
