As the 1st day of Serie A drew to a close yesterday, here are the players who stood out the most according to the ratings of Gazzetta dello Sport, Italy’s leading sports newspaper.
Matteo Retegui – Atalanta (8)
The Italian international scored a brace in his first official match against Atalanta and is increasingly establishing himself as a reliable goalscorer.
Marcus Thuram – Inter (8)
After a disastrous Euro with Les Bleus, Thuram returned to his Inter form with a brace, two fine goals in fact.
Duvan Zapata – Torino (8)
Torino’s neo-captain kept Milan’s defence on its toes with a goal and the cross that opened the scoring for the Granata.
Ondrej Duda – Hellas (8)
The Slovakian midfielder was the standout performer in his team’s thrashing of Conte’s Napoli.
