Former Roma player Walter Sabatini has commented on the vacancy in the Azzurri coach’s post. For him, the conditions under which Roberto Mancini left were not ideal. However, in his opinion, the damage has already been done. He believes, however, that Luciano Spalletti would be the ideal replacement.
“It’s a decision taken on Mancini’s counter-attack, even though there were signals. When a man is left alone, given that he’s been distanced from his direct collaborators, the signals are precise towards the traumatic conclusion. I don’t know why they wiped the slate clean, but the signals were obvious. Spalletti is obviously the right man for the job, everywhere: he’s a great coach, ambitious, the choice made is very judicious and prestigious. I’m amazed that they knew he’d have to pay a fine: I’m perplexed by certain behaviors, if you make a choice you’ve got to pay the fine and that’s it. Napoli contracts are complex, but De Laurentiis must be respected: he has been able to play soccer all these years,” Walter Sabatini told Radio Sportiva.
