New coach Luciano Spalletti tests his first Italian XI for EURO 2024 qualifiers with Northern Macedonia, featuring Bryan Cristante, Ciro Immobile and Federico Chiesa.

It kicks off on Saturday at (18:45 GMT) in Skopje and is the first match under the new tactician who has replaced Roberto Mancini. According to early reports from the Coverciano training center, he’ll stick to the 4-3-3 formation that was used by both the Azzurri at EURO 2020 and Spalletti’s Napoli in last season’s Scudetto battle. Roma midfielder Cristante has been ruled out of the Azzurri since June 2022, but is expected to feature in the starting eleven in a playmaking role against Northern Macedonia. Barella and Sandro Tonali are virtually certain to complete the midfield. Gianluca Mancini also returns after a one-year absence and is expected to play in central defense alongside Alessandro Bastoni or Alessio Romagnoli. The attacking trident should see Immobile flanked by Napoli’s Matteo Politano and Juventus star Federico Chiesa.
