Italy play Malta in Bari this Saturday in a Euro 2024 qualifier. For this match, the Squadra Azzurra is without two players, Nicolo Zaniolo and Sandro Tonali. The latter are involved in a sports betting scandal. In a pre-match press conference, Gianluigi Donnarumma, the team captain, spoke of the difficult times ahead. He expressed his regret at the absence of two of his favorite midfielders.

“It’s been a difficult time, we’re close to him on a human and sporting level, we’re really sorry to lose two strong players, a great group is being created. We are close to him and always will be. I haven’t had a chance to talk to them, they’re gone and we’re very sorry. Personally, I’m close to Sandro and Nicolo,” said Gianluigi Donnarumma.
