Maurizio Sarri is “absolutely furious with UEFA, FIFA, Lega Serie A and everyone else” over the calendar.
The Biancocelesti are struggling to balance the commitments of Serie A, the Champions League and international fixtures. They’re not alone, as there were several injuries after the midweek round, with the busy schedule taking its toll on the players. “We had to make changes because of a crazy schedule. I’m absolutely furious with UEFA, FIFA, Lega Serie A and everyone else for getting together to create this crazy calendar. They send these guys to the slaughter without anyone intervening. That’s soccer now, you take the money and run. Except that not all the money goes to Serie C, where you can’t make a living as a professional player. All that soccer money is invested in 40 or 50 players,” said Sarri at his press conference. Tension is mounting between Sarri and president Lotito after a disastrous start to the season, which has seen them win just two of their eight games between Serie A and the Champions League.
