Roberto Mancini is no longer coach of the Italian national team. Speaking to Corriere Dello Sport, the Italian coach gave his side of the story. He explains the reasons behind his decision.
“When things change or start to change, in my opinion, we’re no longer on the same wavelength, and before something more serious happens, it’s always better to anticipate, even if I did it with a lot of regret. I really cared about the national team,” began Roberto Mancini. Roberto Mancini went on to reveal the process that preceded his resignation. “With Gravina, we exchanged messages on August 7, then spoke again on the phone. Two days later, I sent the Pec. A formal document, the only one possible from a formal point of view, it was only then that I was able to resign. That’s all there is to it. I had to do it, send in a Pec, after having matured the decision to leave. Then things could change,” he continues.
In conclusion, Roberto Mancini made it clear that the inclusion of Bonucci or Buffon had no impact on his decision. “It’s not true. It’s all lies, it’s all lies, all these things that have come out are lies. We exchanged messages, but I love Bonucci like all players. I have a lot of respect for Gigi, and his arrival as head coach has absolutely nothing to do with it. It was my choice to leave the national team.
