A few months after resigning as Italy national team coach, Roberto Mancini looked back on this phase of his career. In an interview with Libero, the current Saudi Arabia coach defended himself in the face of criticism. He admitted that several false reports had been circulated about him in the press. To the angry fans, the former Azzurri number 1 said that resigning should be as normal as sacking a coach.
“I understand the reaction of the fans, who may not have shared or accepted my choice, but they have also been conditioned by false things that have been written in the newspapers. That’s what I didn’t like the most: we’re talking about professional life and it’s about work, how often do you get exonerated after a great job and you don’t talk about it? Coaches can be exonerated, but they can also decide to leave. That’s normal, it’s part of the profession,” declared Roberto Mancini.
