It is the international break. Rafael Leao has been called up by Roberto Martinez for the Euro 2024 qualifiers. The AC Milan striker came on against Liechtenstein and was booed by the Portuguese fans.
Rafael Leao and Joao Mario were booed by the local fans after coming on against Liechtenstein last Thursday. The fans blamed the players for leaving Sporting Lisbon for other countries. But the unpleasant gesture of the fans did not meet with the approval of the president of the Portuguese Football Federation Fernando Gomes, who complained: “I consider it unacceptable that a player of the national team can be booed by his fans when he enters the field. The booing has caused me disbelief, sadness and disgust. These disrespectful acts must be publicly condemned. These episodes cannot be repeated, regardless of the player involved,” said the Portuguese soccer boss.
