Aleksander Ceferin, UEFA President, gave a recent interview to La Repubblica. European football’s top official addressed a number of issues, including the racist insults suffered by Mike Maignan recently. He described these acts as “shameful”, and suggested ways of effectively combating this scourge.
The UEFA president made no secret of his indignation at the recent attack on Mike Maignan. The AC Milan goalkeeper was the victim of racist insults. The Frenchman was the victim of racist insults during his team’s match against Udinese on the 21st day of Serie A. The Frenchman was lynched by the local fans. Sad according to Aleksander Ceferin, who calls on national governments to assume their responsibilities. “A disaster, a disgrace. But it’s not just soccer’s governing bodies that have to intervene. National governments must do so. This idiotic behavior is happening in our country, and we have to eradicate it at the root. It’s an educational issue,” declared the UEFA President.
