Former AC Milan player Paolo Di Canio has spoken out about the club’s summer mercato and the latest defeat in the Madonnina derby. Speaking to Il Mesaggero, he admitted that the club had bought players, but not stars. He also questioned Giroud’s presence in the starting 11 at the age of 37.

“Pioli has bought players, but certainly not phenomena. For nine years, Loftus-Cheek hasn’t made a difference in England. He’s soft, like Pulisic. They haven’t played for Chelsea, but in our league, they are stars. In Italy, it doesn’t take much to get someone excited. The Champions League is difficult, which is why I say you have to have character. You can’t look at Milan in the derby, for me, they should have lost the Scudetto 2-1 too. If Giroud, at 37, is starting, there’s something wrong. And Tomori, fifth choice at Chelsea, has taken the place of Romagnoli, the captain,” said Paolo Di Canio.
