Gianluigi Donnarumma admits that Italy “made too many mistakes” in the 1-0 defeat to Spain, but our “destiny is still in our own hands”.
“We missed too many easy passes and didn’t show enough quality, so if you make that many mistakes, you’re going to be punished. We are angry, but we have to use that determination in the last game. Our destiny is still in our own hands, so we mustn’t see this as a total disaster. We have a lot to do against Croatia, but I’m convinced we can do it. We were aggressive, but our biggest mistakes were when we had possession, because we gave it away too easily. In the last 10 to 15 minutes, we did better, we made them run, but we should have done it much earlier. If you let Spain take the initiative for the whole match, they will revolt. Spain are a great team, and we all know that if you let them through, they’ll hurt you,” Donnarumma told RAI Sport and Sky Sport Italia. The three points send Spain into the last 16 as group winners, but a point against Croatia on Monday would be enough to secure second place.
