Fabian Ruiz has made it clear that he has no regrets about leaving Napoli for Paris Saint-Germain just before their historic Scudetto success, and seems confident that Italy will qualify for Euro 2024.
The Spanish midfielder spent four years with the Partenopei from 2018 to 2022, becoming one of the best in his position in Serie A and making 166 appearances in all competitions for the club. He left for PSG last year for a fee of around 23 million euros. Ruiz hasn’t looked as decisive since joining PSG, and recent media reports suggest that his agents recently visited Juventus’s Continassa training ground to begin discussing a possible move to Turin in January. Speaking to Corriere dello Sport via Calciomercato.com, Ruiz was first asked if he regretted leaving Napoli just before their Scudetto success.
“On the contrary, I’m happy for everyone. For me, who won the first title of my career, and for Napoli, the city, the team and my former team-mates. I’m very attached to this environment, to the way they live soccer, they deserved the Scudetto. Spain are among the favourites for the European Championship next summer, while Italy have their destiny in their own hands and I think they’ll make it. They’re suffering from their failure to qualify for the World Cup, but I’m sure they’ll be there to defend the title at the next European Championship. As for the next Derby d’Italia, it’s hard to say what’s going to happen. Inter’s form against Juventus’s defensive solidity. I’m expecting a good balance, as these are two teams that don’t concede many goals. It will be a great challenge,” said the Spanish international.
