Napoli are closing in on an agreement with Portuguese side Benfica for the transfer of former Ajax winger David Neres, after a meeting between the player’s agent and Partenopei sporting director Giovanni Manna on Wednesday evening.
Neres’s agent was in Rome on Wednesday evening to hold talks with Napoli representatives. According to reports in Corriere dello Sport, Napoli have budgeted an investment in the region of €25 million for a new striker this summer. Benfica are pushing for an upfront fee of €25 million for Neres this summer, plus a further €5 million in bonuses. Napoli, meanwhile, are trying to see if they can get last-minute discounts on the deal. Thursday’s report suggests that there is already an agreement in principle between the player and the club. Napoli are reportedly ready to offer the Brazilian a five-year contract until 2029, with an annual salary of around €3 million per season.
