Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has broken his silence on the shock dismissal of Paolo Maldini and the imminent exit of Ricky Massara. “Our ambition hasn’t changed, it has even been strengthened: to compete at the top of European soccer.”

“First and foremost, I would like to thank Paolo and Ricky and express my gratitude to all the AC Milan staff for their relevant contribution to the Club over the years. Paolo was one of the greatest players of all time and as director, together with Ricky, he played an important role in our 19 th Scudetto. We are sad to see them go. At our club, we are constantly analyzing the best strategies and models to ensure that AC Milan can continue to progress on and off the pitch, to compete with the teams that are leaders in Europe. Our priority now is to consolidate and build on the progress made in recent years, in all areas of the club. Our ambition hasn’t changed, if anything it has strengthened: to compete at the top of European soccer,” Furlani told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The intention of Milan’s new hierarchy would appear to give additional powers to scouting chief Geoffrey Moncada as well as coach Stefano Pioli, all ultimately answering to CEO Furlani.
