Napoli have officially announced that Matteo Politano has signed a new contract extension with the club, which will run until the summer of 2027.

Politano joined Napoli from Inter in January 2020 on an initial two-year loan deal. This became permanent in 2021. Politano’s previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2025, meaning he’d have started the final 12 months of his contract this summer, and Napoli would have risked losing him. Saudi Arabia, notably Al-Shabab, had expressed an interest in Politano in January, but the player, who has enjoyed a decent season on a personal level with the Partenopei, wanted to stay in Italy according to recent reports. In his 20 Serie A appearances so far in 2023-24, Politano has scored six goals and four assists. He also added another goal to his total in the Champions League group stages. Politano’s record of seven goals in all competitions makes him Napoli’s second-highest scorer this season, just one behind last season’s Capocannoniere Victor Osimhen. As usual with Napoli transfers and contract updates, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis was the first to announce the official news. The official announcement from the club’s official social network accounts came a few minutes later
