In an attempt to avoid being referred to the disciplinary commission, the fourth official Marco Serra apologized for having had the “wrong attitude” during the dispute with Roma coach Jose Mourinho, but denies having insulted him.
The Portuguese’s two-match ban in Serie A was initially suspended pending further investigation, but was upheld on appeal. Serra could still be referred to the disciplinary commission and is also accused of violating the referees’ association code of ethics. However, Serra continues to insist that he did not verbally insult Mourinho, claiming that it was a misunderstanding in the noise of the stadium. “I only said you are turning the whole stadium against you. Go to your area. Go to your area”. said Serra to Sport Mediaset
