Manuel Locatelli has broken his silence following Luciano Spalletti’s decision not to include him in Italy’s preliminary squad ahead of the European Championship.
The 26-year-old Italian midfielder was one of the surprise absentees from the Azzurri squad last month. He played an important role in the team’s success at the last edition in 2021, which apparently sealed his move to Juventus. Locatelli has struggled to establish himself in Turin under Massimiliano Allegri, but his actions at the Bianconeri could change once Thiago Motta’s new project begins to take shape. This season, he has scored one goal and provided four assists in 36 Serie A appearances. Writing on his Instagram page, Locatelli reacted to his exclusion from the Italian squad and commented on his state of mind as the summer approaches. “I took a few days after the end of the season to think carefully about everything. It’s been a long season and we’ve achieved the team goals. Now it’s time to spend some time with my fantastic family. I’ll always have a positive outlook because I know I’ve given everything. Working every day to improve is my mentality, and it always will be. A hug to all of you,” reads a message on his official page.
