Italy take on Macedonia this evening in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Luciano Spalletti, who recently took charge of the national team, has finally made his long-awaited choice. He has dismissed the Squadra Azzurra captain.
It won’t be Giovanni Di Lorenzo as expected. Luciano Spalletti has opted for a well-known player with a wealth of experience. He is Lazio centre-forward Ciro Immobile. The national coach also confirmed that he will remain captain until Euro 2024: “It will be until the European Championship, then we’ll see. For me, the captain is someone who commands respect in the dressing room, he’s everyone’s friend, he’s generous, he’s also appreciated by his rivals,” said Spalletti.
