Luciano Spalletti has been forced to make changes to his Italy squad due to injury, calling up Manuel Lazzari from Lazio and Cristiano Biraghi from Fiorentina.
The Azzurri are preparing for their final Euro 2024 qualifiers against Northern Macedonia and Ukraine, and need to win games to ensure qualification. Four players called up by Spalletti have already withdrawn from the Italy squad due to injury. Davide Calabria of AC Milan, Alex Meret of Napoli, Rafael Toloi of Atalanta and Manuel Locatelli of Juventus have all returned to their respective clubs. As Gianluca Di Marzio points out, Spalletti has called on a number of substitutes after the withdrawals, calling up Lazzari and Biraghi. The Fiorentina captain will join his compatriots for their morning training session in Coverciano, while Lazio’s right-back will arrive later in the day.
