Leonardo Bonucci, no longer wanted by Juventus, is set for a new lease of life in Germany. The captain of Italy’s Old Lady is set to sign for Union Berlin. Negotiations have moved very quickly in recent days. Only a few details remain to make the deal official.
Juventus told Leonardo Bonucci this summer that he was no longer part of the club’s plans. The 36-year-old defender found the news hard to take and was determined to fight for his place. In the end, however, the two parties were able to avoid a showdown. Although Lazio were rumoured to be interested in him, he won’t be going to Rome after all. Lotito’s club failed to make a serious offer for the former Milanese. In the end, it was Union Berlin’s proposal that convinced Bonucci. He is expected to sign a season’s contract and take part in the Champions League. Juventus, for their part, are set to receive between €500,000 and €1 million for the deal. Only a few more details to go, and the official announcement should follow.
