Lazio have bought Matteo Guendouzi from Olympique de Marseille after the conditions of his compulsory purchase clause were fulfilled.
The 25-year-old French midfielder arrived in the Italian capital last summer on a season-long loan deal with a conditional clause attached, worth around 13 million euros plus 5 million euros in add-ons. It almost instantly became a regular first team under Maurizio Sarri and his successor Igor Tudor. This season, Guendouzi has scored three goals and provided four assists in 40 games, being at the center of various key moments such as the first-leg win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League or the clash with Paulo Dybala in the recent Derby della Capitale. As various outlets have pointed out, including TMW and Calciomercato.com, Lazio have now signed Guendouzi from Marseille following the triggering of his conditional obligation to buy clause. The Biancocelesti needed to finish at least 12th in the Serie A table to activate the clause, which was mathematically confirmed after their 1-0 win over Genoa.
