In a recent interview, Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio was asked about his most memorable transfer to the Nerazzurri. He mentioned Lautaro Martinez, then Mario Balotelli.
“We’re in danger of hurting people. Lautaro’s transfer is special. He was actually in the sights of Atlético Madrid, and it was four days of crazy negotiations. There was a clause that, fortunately, Lautaro didn’t want to exercise, and there was a lot at stake. Zanetti gave me a hand with the prosecutors, Milito was Racing’s sporting director and helped us out. Just before closing time, Lautaro scored a hat-trick with Huracan, which cost us a bit more, but we brought him home. Then I’m talking about Balotelli: he hasn’t played at his best, unfortunately, in his career,” Piero Ausilio told Radio Serie A.
