José Mourinho reflects on his time at Inter and the reasons for his departure

José Mourinho took part in a program called Buffa Talks broadcast on Sky Sport. He spoke about his time at Inter and, above all, his reasons for leaving the club. He saw the call from Real Madrid as the opportunity of a lifetime, but was determined to see out his contract before heading to Spain.

“I am always very honest with others and with myself. I could have gone to Real Madrid after my first season. But at Inter, I had signed to stay for more than a year, and I had an incredible relationship not only with the president, but also with his wife and children. I went to see Moratti at the end of the first season and we came to the conclusion that I would stay for another year. It wasn’t victory or defeat in the Champions League final that would decide my life, I already knew what I was going to do and I wanted to go to Real Madrid. The opportunity presented itself for the second time and I felt like leaving, it was a moment in my career when I said to myself that I had to do it. It’s the biggest club in the world, there’s no history but I had this thing about winning the Serie A championship,” José Mourinho told Sky Sport.
