Fabio Cannavaro, 2006 world champion, recently spoke to the media about the problems facing Italian soccer. He revealed that Italian soccer is no longer producing talent. He called on the authorities in charge of the sport to remedy the situation.
“The system hasn’t worked in recent years. We need to find new solutions, and we need to understand why we don’t produce many champions any more, why it’s so difficult to get to a World Cup. Why we are risking Europe, things that used to be normal for us. There are certainly many other sports that young people play today. They also have fewer children, so there are a lot of things to think about,” Fabio Cannavaro told ANSA.
