In the wake of Italy’s disappointing test match against Turkey, Squadra Azzurra defender Gianluca Mancini spoke out to assess the national team’s current level. Speaking to RAI, Mancini gave his impressions of the goalless draw and expressed his determination to see Italy shine at Euro 2024.

“We did four days of intense work to put as many things in place as possible,” said Mancini, highlighting the efforts made in the build-up to the match. However, he also acknowledged the team’s shortcomings in the first half, characterized by rushed play and a frenzy over aerial duels. “The second half was better,” he added, “but these are friendlies. We need to review them to try and do better.” Asked about the possibility of improving in the time remaining before Euro 2024, Mancini was confident. “There is time,” he said, “it’s up to us players to perceive the things the coach is telling us as a team and not as individuals. We need to improve for the competition that’s coming up in 10 days”. He underlined the importance of solidarity and cohesion in modern soccer, stressing the need for the team to stick together and work together to achieve their goals.
