FIFA has published its latest men’s ranking, confirming several changes in the top 20, including Italy’s fall to ninth place.
The Azzurri are in the early stages of the Luciano Spalletti project, having played just two games under their new coach following Roberto Mancini’s expected resignation in August, which ended his rollercoaster five years at the helm. Italy currently occupy second place in their Euro 2024 qualifying group, six points behind leaders England and tied on seven with Ukraine. In the latest update of the FIFA men’s ranking, Portugal have overtaken Italy in eighth place, the Azzurri’s draw with Northern Macedonia finally proving punishing. Morocco progressed at the expense of Switzerland, while world champions Argentina remain at the top.
