AC Milan legend and former Italy national team coach Arrigo Sacchi has thrown his support behind outgoing coach Luciano Spalletti ahead of Sunday evening’s friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina, suggesting that “Italy could surprise us”.
The Azzurri will play their final warm-up game before this summer’s tournament when Bosnia visit Empoli’s Stadio Castellani on Sunday evening. Sacchi also said he expects Italy to start EURO 2024 at full pace. “What gives me the most peace of mind is Spalletti’s presence. I believe he’s a great coach, capable of bringing a good game plan and style of play to his teams, and he’s shown that with Napoli. I also believe that if the boys choose to follow him correctly, Italy could surprise us. We’ll play Albania first, then Spain and Croatia. The coach’s job is complicated. He doesn’t have much time to prepare for a difficult tournament like the EURO, but I’m convinced that Spalletti is the right man in the right place,” Sacchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport, reported via TMW.
