Inter have officially confirmed Lautaro Martinez as the club’s new captain.
The departures of Samir Handanovic and Marcelo Brozovic this summer left the Nerazzurri without a captain, and the Argentine striker was the obvious choice to take the armband, having worn it on several occasions last season. Lautaro has become a talismanic figure for Inter since his arrival in 2018, and is said to have recently rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia in a show of loyalty to the Milanese club. As announced today, Lautaro is now Inter’s new club captain, with Nicolo Barella promoted to vice-captain. Lautaro has made 238 appearances in all competitions for Inter since his arrival in 2018, scoring 102 goals and providing 36 assists in that time.
