After announcing his intention to leave Lazio at the end of the season, Luis Alberto spoke directly to fans. “I’ll give everything to the last minute.”

The midfielder has been at the Stadio Olimpico since transferring from Liverpool in 2016 and is considered by many to be one of the team’s key players. However, Maurizio Sarri’s resignation, Igor Tudor’s arrival to use him in a new role and frustration with president Claudio Lotito have turned everything on its head. Luis Alberto announced live on DAZN moments after the final whistle of Friday night’s 4-1 win over Salernitana that he had asked the club to terminate his contract at the end of the season, letting him go for free. Later, he wrote a message on his Instagram account. “I am grateful for the show of affection, as my relationship with the Lazio fans is excellent and I’m proud of it. I thank everyone for everything they’ve done during my years at the club, especially the mis of the Curva Nord and Tribuna Tevere sections who have always supported me. I will continue to work hard and give my all on the pitch right up to the last minute of the last match, as I always have.” His contract with the club runs until June 2027, so it remains to be seen whether Lazio will accept his request and terminate by mutual consent, or try to sell him for the higher fee. This caused problems last summer, when he wanted to join Sevilla, but they couldn’t pay the asking price.
