In an interview with Sportmediaset, Leonardo Bonucci spoke about the circumstances surrounding his departure from Juventus. He asserted that there had been lies about him.
“I’ve read and heard lies from Juventus and coach Massimiliano Allegri. It is untrue that in October and February I communicated my desire to end the relationship at the end of the season. In fact, at the end of May, I demonstrated my availability to be the fifth or sixth choice in defense. I felt something. It wasn’t until I read it in the papers on July 13 that Giuntoli, the sporting director, and Manna, his right-hand man, informed me at home that I would no longer be part of the Juventus team, and that my presence on the pitch would be detrimental to the team’s growth,” he declared. He went on to confess that he felt humiliated by the way the club he had given so much for had handled his departure. “It’s the humiliation I suffered after more than 500 games in a Bianconera shirt. I appreciated the solidarity of several players, including current players, from Juventus and other clubs. They all expressed their empathy for the management’s disrespectful behavior,” he concluded.
